The round score
Round S = base score × winning bid × multiplier
The base score is normally 1. The winning bid is 1, 2, or 3. The multiplier starts at 1 and changes during the round.
Multiplier events
| Event | Effect |
|---|---|
| Each bomb | Multiplier ×2 |
| Rocket | Multiplier ×2 |
| Spring | Multiplier ×2 once at settlement |
| Reverse spring | Multiplier ×2 once at settlement |
Spring and reverse spring
- Spring: the landlord wins and neither farmer has played any card.
- Reverse spring: the farmers win and the landlord has played only one hand.
- Spring and reverse spring cannot both apply.
Settlement
| Result | Landlord | Each farmer |
|---|---|---|
| Landlord wins | +2S | −S |
| Farmers win | −2S | +S |
The settlement is zero-sum: the landlord's gain equals the combined farmers' loss, and the reverse is also true.
Worked example
Suppose the winning bid is 2, two bombs are played, and the landlord wins with a spring.
- Bomb multiplier: ×2 ×2 = ×4
- Spring multiplier: ×4 ×2 = ×8
- Round S = 1 × 2 × 8 = 16
- Landlord gains 32 points; each farmer loses 16.
A high bid increases the value of the round, but it also means the landlord chose to take the stronger hand. Bid discipline matters.
